Reaffirming that every Dobbins CTE member has access to a welcoming school community and facility that delivers high-quality education and school spirit, exposes students to growth mindsets, provides human and community resources that meet families and individuals needs, and offers a wide range of college and career opportunities in a safe and conducive learning environment.
Continuing Initiatives: Last year, we instituted many wonderful changes to our school that positively impacted our climate and culture. I want to take this opportunity to remind you of a few of those initiatives here:
We Have Space: We have advisory periods built into our bell schedules for relationship building activities to foster a sense of community and accountability to each other.
Classroom Norms: Our teachers will create classroom norms and explicitly discuss behavior expectations with students on the first few days of school; each classroom will adhere to our Student Handbook for expectations.
School Safety: We continue with our Safe School Initiatives mission to keep students safe by providing students and families with resources that outline appropriate student conduct and consequences on issues ranging from classroom, hallway, and lunchroom behavior to combating dating violence, suicide prevention, toll-free bullying prevention, a crisis center hotline, and other community school resources. We also expanded our Climate Staff to become increasingly visible throughout the school building
Cell Phones: Cell phones are now used as instructional tools, and scholars self-monitor them as a kind of accountability for their own academic and behavioral performance. Instructional time should be valued and regarded as a period when cell phones are not used for recreational purposes.
Community Schools Resources: We continue to prioritize the behavioral, mental, and human needs of our scholars and create opportunities for them to share their concerns. Our school counselors and external providers are available to support all of our students and families.
Parent Meetings: We will continue to partner with you as parents and guardians this school year. To strengthen our engagement with you, we are elated to host events throughout the school year.
More importantly, I wish you a wonderful school year and look forward to seeing you all on September 5th. Please feel free to contact me if there is anything I can do for you or your student. Your feedback is welcomed and appreciated. Remember,
