Science

PHYSICAL SCIENCE • 9TH GRADE • 1 CREDIT
This course introduces students to scientific ways of
thinking and to concepts pertaining to the structure
and properties of matter and to the principles of force
and motion. Students develop problem-solving skills
and complete hands-on modules. Laboratory sessions
provide students with opportunities to test scientific
laws and to relate theories to practical applications.

BIOLOGY • 10TH GRADE • 1 CREDIT
This course introduces students to the fundamental
properties of living organisms, cell structure and
function, heredity, evolution, and the interrelationship of
organisms to their environment. Students participate in
many laboratory experiences including experimentation
with plants and invertebrates, extensive use of the
microscope and laser disc, and implementation of a video microscope
techniques.

CHEMISTRY • 11TH GRADE • 1 CREDIT
This course offers students an introduction to the
study of the composition of matter and the changes
that matter undergoes. Some of the topics covered are
chemical and physical change, chemical reactions, the
mole, the periodic table, stoichiometry, gas laws, acids
and bases, equilibrium, and oxidation/reduction.

APPLIED PHYSICS • 12TH GRADE • 1 CREDIT
(HIGHER LEVEL SCIENCE)
This course explores the higher level of physical
sciences as they apply directly to technology and its
related sciences, with more emphasis on theories and
applications.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE • 1 CREDIT (ELECTIVE))
This course leads students to examine the factors that
affect the earth’s ability to support life: air, water, and
soil quality, population, agriculture, energy, recycling, and
solid waste disposal. Field trips, computer programs,
individual research, and chemical evaluations of local
waterways and soils help students understand the
interrelationships between the biotic and abiotic worlds.
